Trikker 1.5.101 is now available

With version 1.5.100, we renewed a large part of what happens under the hood of Trikker. That kind of fundamental rework always comes with some teething problems, even if we caught as many as possible before the release. A number of users ran into them and reported them properly. Thank you for that.

Version 1.5.101 gathers the fixes for those issues in one focused intermediate update. No new features this time, but a series of refinements that make Trikker more stable, smoother and more reliable. That way, we're ready for the big leap coming later this year with Trikker 2.0.

What's in this update?

  • More reliable opening of your Trikker files

When something went unexpectedly wrong while opening a Trikker file, for instance because the file was large and the available memory on your pc was tight, Trikker could suddenly stop at startup without explanation. Trikker now catches this kind of situation gracefully and shows a clear message instead of crashing, so you can simply continue with a new document. A rare issue where an underlying program component wasn't properly delivered and caused the floor plan screen to crash has also been addressed.

  • Smoother import of AutoCAD and PDF drawings

If you regularly import floor plans from AutoCAD or PDF, you'll notice that Trikker handles those embedded drawings much more lightly. Previously, parts of previously opened plans lingered in memory, and with every page change the underlying AutoCAD and PDF models were rebuilt without the previous ones being cleaned up. In practice, Trikker got heavier and heavier as you opened more documents with imported plans. That has been thoroughly resolved.

  • More stable drawing on the single-line diagram and floor plan

On the drawing itself, we've smoothed out a number of rough edges. Moving symbols on the floor plan, merging loose connection points on the single-line diagram, and working with notes all behave more reliably now. In certain scenarios, Trikker could stop unexpectedly or select the wrong symbol after a move. That is now a thing of the past.

  • More stable when closing and switching between documents

When closing a document or switching between tabs, Trikker could in rare cases stop unexpectedly, especially when you were working quickly or using multiple screens at the same time. That has been resolved.

  • More stable printing

Windows' printing environment is a sensitive junction between Trikker, your printer and the operating system. With certain printer drivers, especially older or less common ones, this could lead to annoying error messages. Both when opening the print preview and at the printer settings screen. We've made that whole chain more resilient: even if your printer returns unusual information, Trikker stays on its feet.

  • Smoother memory usage

On top of the specific fixes above, we've taken a fresh look at general memory management. In practice, you'll notice that Trikker gets less heavy during long working sessions. On older or more modest machines, that's a noticeable difference.

  • Conductor colors correctly preserved

When you copied a cable or saved it as a favorite, the configured conductor colors were lost in certain situations. They are now properly preserved.

  • Small refinements to the interface

A number of dialog windows carried a generic title instead of a proper, translated name. When selecting a logo, Trikker accidentally also offered non-image files in the file picker. And in the installer details screen, an internal key was displayed in one place instead of the translated text. All cleaned up.

  • Better error detection behind the scenes

The most important work lies in something you ideally never get to see: error handling. Trikker 1.5.101 now consistently catches unexpected errors, including those that occur on background processes, and automatically sends us a detailed report. If something does slip past us in the future, we'll see it sooner and can address it faster. That's also an important preparation for Trikker 2.0.

Thank you for your patience

We're aware that 1.5.100 didn't go smoothly for everyone. A large internal rework needs time to settle, and your reports, calls and e-mails have helped us enormously to tackle this in a focused way. Thank you for that.

How do you get this version?

Trikker updates itself automatically when you start the program. So you don't have to do anything. If the update doesn't go as expected or you have a question, contact us through the helpdesk at https://www.trikker.be/helpdesk/contact-2.

On to Trikker 2.0.
